"Data driven innovation for enabling smart cities"
Copenhagen is one of the forerunners in smart cities. Copenhagen decided to be the world’s first carbon neutral capital in 2025 and to achieve this goal, Copenhagen is carrying out several innovative projects. Vinay will introduce various cases and explain how we are helping Copenhagen realize this vision with a focus on data driven innovation.

"Cognitive computer Watson – How it changes the economic society "
IBM Watson is a technology platform that uses natural language processing and machine learning to reveal insights from large amounts of unstructured data. In 2011, Watson competed on Jeopardy! against former winners and received the first place prize. Currently, IBM Watson widely used in many industries such as banking, healthcare, and industrial markets. In this session, technology, successful client references, and IBM strategy about IBM Watson will be introduced.

"Digital City as a Service ?
Breaking the Traditional Silo’s"

As the Digitization of the World accelerates and technology changes at unprecedented speeds, how can Cities, constrained by the problems of today, keep pace? This presentation outlines how Cities can continue to innovate while dealing with the problems of today and explores some of the roadblocks that need to be overcome to lead in tomorrow’s Digital environment.

The presentation will explore new business models and ways of thinking and how they impact today’s traditional view of City services. It will also highlight the need for non-linear thinking in overcoming traditional norms and accepted behaviours.

"Digital Transformation"

Digital data forms a key pillar in 21st century sources of growth. OECD is discussing the value of data as a new source of growth. The digital data is becoming a core asset in the economy, fostering new industries, processes and products and creating significant competitive advantages. The talk shows the value of digital data, and identifies the directions and challenges for realizing data-driven economy from the viewpoints of the digitization of physical assets, general purpose technology, the importance of eco systems, field-oriented R&D, and service-oriented design.

In collaboration with Kyoto business circles:
"Energy development for the next generation and approaches for energy saving and environment"

"Research and Technological development for the hydrogen energy society in Kyoto"

Finally, the era of hydrogen energy has arrived. With an inexhaustible supply on Earth and expectations on a wide range of utilization in homes and industries by combining it with a variety of technologies, the hydrogen energy is receiving much attention also from the point of view of ensuring fossil fuel free and energy security.
In Japan, technological development of the hydrogen fuel cells field in particular is making progress, and ahead of the rest of the world we are carrying out the infrastructure development of fuel cells energy farms for home use, hydrogen stations and others that were put in operational service.
In addition, concerning its “Use” part, apart from energy farms and fuel cell vehicles, its utilization is being considered as emergency power supply of hospitals, buses, forklifts and other industrial vehicles, ships, etc.
In this lecture, towards realization of the Smart City, we will mainly introduce the solid hydrogen source fuel cell technology development on which we are working.

"KYOTO AQUARIUM’s activities in energy saving and environment"

In March 2013, the Kyoto Aquarium opened in Umekoji Park, which is situated in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, with the concept of “Life Connected by Water”, and as an aquarium located in the Eco-Model City of Kyoto, a variety of initiatives that are friendly to the environment are implemented. Incorporating for the first time in Japan a completely artificial seawater system for an urban type aquarium located in an inland area, reducing the amount of fuel and CO2 emissions related to transportation, and also, working on the reutilization of water by using large-scale filtration equipment and a reduction of the amount of environmental resources used. Aiming at an aquarium having close ties with the region, we are working to raise interest on the fusion between people and nature as well as familiar environmental issues by informing through exhibitions and experience programs on the rivers, sea and rich nature of Kyoto.

"Utilizing regional resources for urban development and regional revitalization"

"Striving for actualizing 'the Maniwan lifestyle' ~Seeking a true richness~" (tentative)

Maniwa City is a municipality located in a mountainous area of western Japan.

The problems faced by mountainous regions in Japan include the weakening of local communities due to population decline and aging - serious challenges that the whole of Japanese society is also facing.
To solve these problems, Maniwa City has proposed an approach called "Maniwa Lifestyle”. This is a proposal for a new set of values; Maniwa’s citizens will rediscover the allure of their own lifestyle, one that makes use of regional resources.

We want to spread the word about this new set of values that fully recognizes the appeal of Maniwa City. In doing so, we aim to take on the challenges facing communities in mountainous areas.

"Integrating Citizens and Technology in China's Smart Cities"

In recent years, Chinese governments have devoted great efforts to the development of smart cities. Ms. Bai will give us an introduction on China’s advancements in smart city projects and explaining how Chinese mayors are leveraging smart governance tools for regional development. She has developed intriguing theories about how smart technologies are going to alter the way governments and local residents interact. She predicts substantial impacts of such changes on Chinese governments’ decision-making and operational patterns. Coupled with its special political and social fabric, such changes have the potential of leading China to a new form of democracy -- “participative democracy”.

"MBT(Medicine-Based Town)~For Aging society with fewer children, Industry innovation and Regional revitalization~"

The purposes of MBT are community development for aging society with fewer children, industry innovation, new product development and regional revitalization. MBT is directed to not only health care industry but also all the industries. When the medical power which usually a doctor applies to a patient with one to one can be used for industry innovation, the new world may open out. This idea came from my experience. I applied medical discovery “cartilage conduction hearing” to medical and non-medical industry, such as cell-phones, robot, etc. The support system for MBT has been constructed by the cabinet office of the Japanese government, municipal governments and many companies.

' "Sen-nen Karte"- EHR enables secondary use of medical data- '

this research, the research about collection and utilization of national cooperative utility-type international standard health・medical information: Sen-nen karte, was adopted by AMED Research open-type enterprise in 2015. It is intended to standardize EHR internationally, utilize cooperatively, & ultimately utilize data secondarily.
EHR site which is already operating separately in Kyoto, Tokyo and Kyushu will be newly developed & established. We aggregate the data in "cooperative utility-type EHR center", unify the standard of the data into ISO13606, & cooperative utilization of this data center is designed to cut operating cost. Also, these data are used secondarily according to the law, then its incomes allow secondary utilization and operation of whole EHR, which provide security of continuity of enterprise. Full scale operation of medical data-base which had been outstanding issue for long years increase expectation of utilization for clinical research, drug development, public health and so on.

"Smart City by IoT"

"BIGDATA in Museum: visitors studies in the Louvre Museum"

Art Museums traditionally employ observations and surveys to enhance their knowledge of visitors’ behavior and experience. Unfortunately, these approaches often produce spatially and temporally limited empirical evidence and measurements. It is only recently that the ubiquity of digital technologies has revolutionized the accessibility to collect data on human behavior. Consequently, the greater availability of large-scale datasets based on quantifying visitors’ behavior provides new opportunities to apply computational and comparative analytical techniques. In this presentation, I attempt to present the analysis of visitors’ behavior in the Louvre Museum from anonymized longitudinal datasets collected from noninvasive Bluetooth sensors. In addition, the presentation provides a novel approach for the human behavioral analysis by collecting BIGDATA from sensors installed all over the city. This enables us to analyze the longitudinal and continuous human behaviors from inside to outside of buildings, resulting in discovering the new patterns of their behaviors. These case studies are the practical examples for Smart Cities in order to enhance the quality of life for the citizens.
