  • Dr. CHUANG Woei JerNational Cheng Kung University, Chair Professor and Executive Vice President

    Dr. Woei-Jer Chuang now serves as the Executive Vice President of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and was the Director General of the Department of Life Sciences in the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) in Taiwan. He led the Innovation Headquarters and helped patent and commercialize university research, as well as created industry partnerships and incubated startups. His efforts resulted in 20-25% university research budget from industrial partners and an annual average of 15 startups from university faculties and students. Dr. Chuang’s laboratory interests focus on structure-based drug design, and he has more than 100 publications, 48 granted patents, and 65 patent applications. He and his collaborator have successfully developed a protein drug for diabetic macular edema in a phase II clinical trial (NCT 05301751).

    Kazuhiro Shiozaki was appointed President of the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan, in April 2021. Prior to this position, he served as Advisor to the President and Deputy Director of the Division of Biological Science at NAIST. Before joining NAIST in 2010, Dr. Shiozaki was a professor at the Department of Microbiology, University of California Davis, USA.
