Mr. Junichi Yamagiwa
President, Kyoto University

Born in Tokyo in 1952.
Doctor of Science
Having graduated from faculty of science, he withdrew with approved graduation from doctoral program of graduate school of science, Kyoto University.
Prior to becoming professor of this school, he worked as a researcher at Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, trainee at Kyoto University, fellow at Japan Monkey Centre, assistant at Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University, and assistant professor of graduate school of Science, Kyoto University.
He has been in the current position since 1st, October, 2014, following experiences as head of graduate school of science, and dean of science from FY2011 to FY2012.

He has published a plenty of prominent books, including “How to study with fun- Kyoto university method-“ (2015, Asahi Shimbun), “Human today resembling monkey.”(2014, Shueisha International), “Evolution History of Human Family”(2012, University of Tokyo Press), “terakoya series for teenagers-Lesson From Gorillas-”(2012, KODANSHA), “Where does violence come from?”(2007, NHK publishing), “Golliras”(2005, University of Tokyo Press).
Important positions he has assumed so far vary; chairman of Primate Society Japan, International Primatological Society, executive director of Japan Association For African Studies, a member of Central Environment Council, Science Council of Japan, and vice chairman of The Japan Association of National Universities. Throughout Africa, he seeks the original lifestyle of primate human beings based on the data on gorillas’ mode of life and behaviors to find out where the unique feature of human society dates from.

Mr. Vinay Venkatraman
CEO, Leapcraft, Denmark

Vinay Venkatraman is the founder and CEO of Leapcraft (www.leapcraft.dk) - a new age global innovation provider blending design, data and science to create sophisticated data enabled products. Vinay works closely with companies & governments to create new offerings with a breed of new tools and methods based on big data analytics & internet of things driven by rapid prototyping and a user centric approach to making technology usable. He has helped shape product strategy for companies like Nokia, Intel, Novo Nordisk, Maersk line, Lufthansa Technik, Philips, city of Copenhagen etc. His passion lies in incubating new technology ideas, finding new models of sustainable socio-economic development using appropriate technologies.

As part of his academic interests Vinay has also co-founded CIID (Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design) and the Big Data Visualization academy in collaboration with Danish Design Center to create new skills and build awareness of how big data can be utilised with design thinking and innovation strategy.

Vinay routinely travels and lectures world wide in platforms like TED on innovation, user centered methods and design for digital technologies. in 2013 he was the recipient of an award from the Danish Design Council and has served on numerous jury panels for design awards etc.

Mr. Toshifumi Yoshizaki
Vice President, Watson, IBM Japan, Ltd.
Currently he is in charge of Watson Group Japan. Prior to this position, he has rich experience as a leader of starting new business for Smarter Cities in IBM Japan (2012-) and Cloud Computing business unit. Before that he has been responsible for ITS ( 2007-), ibm.com center (2004-), e-business promotion and support for the entire Asia Pacific region (2003-), BT/CIO CRM in the Asia Pacific branch (1999-). Mr. Matthew Smith
Global Head of Market Development-IoT, Cisco Systems
Matthew leads a global team, driving the creation of disruptive market opportunities to develop the global market for Internet of Things. Matthew’s charter is to work with large Multi-National and Government customers to develop robust large scale opportunities that enable digitised business outcomes and positive investment returns for all parties.
Matthew joined Cisco in 2000. He has taken varied roles throughout his Cisco career, including leading Cisco’s Brand Protection initiatives throughout Asia and Europe; leading Cisco’s Business Operations for the Middle East and Africa region and, based in Riyadh, heading sales and subsequently as General Manager for Cisco’s Saudi Arabian business. Prior to his current role, Matthew was based in Bangalore as the Strategy and Operations lead for Cisco’s Globalisation office.
Matthew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Systems and an MBA from Edinburgh University Business School, Heriot Watt.
Mr. Hiroyuki Morikawa
Professor of Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo
Hiroyuki Morikawa received the B.E., M.E, and Dr. Eng. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 1987, 1989, and 1992, respectively.
Since 1992, he had been in the University of Tokyo and is currently a full professor of the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo.
His research interests are in the areas of big data/IoT/M2M, sensor networks, wireless communications, and network services. He serves as a vice chair of OECD Committee on Digital Economy Policy (CDEP), director of New Generation M2M Consortium, and he sits on numerous telecommunications advisory committees and frequently serves as a consultant to government and companies.
He has received more than 50 awards including NTT DoCoMo Mobile Science Award, Rinzaburo Shida Award, and the Radio Day Ministerial Commendation.
Prof. Kazuyuki Hirao
Professor and Director of Nano Technology Hub, C-PiER, Kyoto University
Professor Hirao was born in Osaka, Japan, on May 29, 1951.
He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D degrees in Kyoto University in 1974, 1976, and 1979, respectively. He is currently a professor of Kyoto University, and He was post doctoral fellow at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 1985 to 1986, and he held the director of Hirao Active Glass Project, ERATO, Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST) from from 1994 to 1999, the director of Photon Craft Project, ICORP, JST from 2000 to 2005, and the director of Nanotechnology Glass Project, New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) from 2001 to 2006 and he directs two NEDO Project; “High-efficiency Processing Technology for Three-dimensional Optical Devices” and “Integrated Photonics Laboratory” from 2006 to 2011.

Director, KYOTO AQUARIUM
Born in Osaka, on 17th, March, in 1965.
He grew with curiosity in fish and aquatic animals in his childhood and worked at Osaka Aquarium KAIYUKAN mainly as in charge of fish for 20 years since it opened. Engaged in founding KYOTO AQUARIUM and SUMIDA AQUARIUM, he made a role in management of breeding. Currently director of KYOTO AQUARIUM.
Mr. Noboru Ota
Mayor, Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture
Born in 1951.Graduated in the Faculty of Law from Kyoto University. Mayor Noboru Ota started out his career at the provincial office of Kyoto in 1975. He served as a chief officer of the Financial Department and the office of the Governor, and as the head of the general affairs department. After serving as the deputy governor since 2010, he was elected mayor of Maniwa City in April 2013. Since then, he has been serving as the mayor of Maniwa City.

He believes that discovering, utilizing and connecting local resources are one fundamental plan for the sustainable development of Maniwa City and he is striving for his strategic initiative which optimizes variety local resources of Maniwa City, such as the biomass power station generated by lignum resources and defusing CLT(Cross Laminated Timber).

His motto is’近き者説(よろこ)び、遠き者来る(chikakimono yorokobi tokimono kitaru)’ from the Analects of Confucius. It means that “Those who close to you are happy, and those who are far away will come to you.”
Ms. Guo BAI
Assistant professor, China Institute of Fudan University
Guo BAI is an assistant professor at China Institute of Fudan University, and principle of Global Futures Group. She is co-author of the book “China’s Development: Capitalism and Empire”, which provided unique perspectives to understand the logic of China’s reform and pointed out a roadmap that could lead China onto a more sustainable growth path. Her book has been published in English, French, Chinese, and received wide press coverage. Her current research interest is on governance of inter-organizational collaborations for complex ICT-driven projects, especially smart city projects. She is a Ph.D. in strategic management at HEC Paris, and was a senior researcher in economy and finance at the French Embassy in Beijing.

Mr. Kazunori Nagahata
Executive director of KES environment institute, authorized non-profit organization.
Executive director of KES environment institute, authorized non-profit organization. Born in Osaka in 1952. Having graduated from faculty of engineering, Osaka University, he entered Japan Storage Battery Co., Ltd. Before he was assigned to be a department of environment in 2008 and assumed the leader in 2011, he had had wide experiences in production technology, design, planning, sales promotion, sales, production management and material procurement. He belongs to the current position after he resigned office in March, 2016, following to resignation of the department leader in October, 2014.
Mr. Sébastien Tremblay
Director and Professor of Joint Research Unit in Urban Sciences at Laval University
Sébastien Tremblay is a Professor at Université Laval and Honorary Professor at Cardiff University, UK. He has recently been appointed Head of the new Joint Research Unit in Urban Sciences; a consortium of academic and industrial partners led by Université Laval, Thales Canada, the city of Quebec, Quebec Metro High Tech Park and the National Institute of Scientific Research (INRS). His program of research focuses on issues of human behavior and adaptive technologies related to maximizing performance and well-being in a wide range of domains such as public safety, transportation and entertainment. Dr. Tremblay holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive psychology (1999) from Cardiff University and a postdoctoral fellowship from a partnership between Cardiff University and the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (now QinetiQ).
