NICHICON CORPORATION

Booth No: 1-65

About exhibition

Nichicon’s “EV Power Station” is the world’s first mass production V2H system. This makes it possible to use the power stored in an EV’s batteries as emergency backup for the home. In addition, it can contribute to energy savings by letting you use energy stored at night in an EV as daytime power in the home when demand and costs are higher.

Nichicon will introduce a large capacity, long life household energy storage system capable of activating itself in the event of a power blackout in order to meet general household demand. This system offers a more effective swichover for home energy supply and, by combining local production for local consumption with solar power generation, can contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions. It can also help to average out power demand, through peak cut or peak shift functions, provide power assurance during blackouts, reduce electricity fees and maximize the sales of solar generated power.

EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation

Booth No: 1-66

About exhibition JEUPISTE (Japan-EU Partnership in Innovation, Science and Technology) is a 3-year EU funded project for the promotion, enhancement and development of Europe-Japan cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). The project is supporting the EU-Japan STI policy dialogues through data collection and analytical reports. It also organises workshops and information days to promote cooperation programmes such as Horizon 2020 and facilitates partnership building through thematic events. The project furthermore addresses the individual needs of researchers and research organisations by implementing training seminars on Horizon 2020 project management and operates a help desk where any kind of inquiry related to EU-Japan STI cooperation can be addressed.
One of the major tasks of the JEUPISTE project was to provide networking/twinning opportunities for research and innovation communities in the area of “smart communities”. To achieve this, three major events, called “innovation workshops” were organized: Brussels (October 2014), Turin (November 2014) and Barcelona (November 2015). In addition, the project co-organised a business mission with HASEKURA 2.0 in and around Barcelona at the occasion of the Barcelona Smart City World Expo (November 2015). We are disseminating the results of these activities at the exhibition. At the same time, we are promoting EU-Japan projects related to smart communities/cities, the added value for EU-Japan cooperation and the Horizon 2020 programme. Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over seven years (2014-2020) and open to participation from all over the world, including Japan.
The following EU-Japan initiatives will be promoted at the JEUPISTE booth: ClouT project, Festival project, Kobe-Barcelona International Workshop

About exhibition Conventional energy conservation buildings are those that utilize technologies for conserving energy in various places to curb energy consumption as much as possible. On the other hand, ZEB is taking it a further step forward and aims for Zero annual net energy consumption for the entire building by using energy conservation + power generation.
The salient feature of our Urban ZEB is the aim of achieving net zero energy within a standalone building. As first step we constructed a ZEB demonstration building on the site of Taisei Technology Center. Operation began in June 2014, we could achive net zero annual energy consumption as the simulation predicted.
 In this EXPO we will exhibit “T-ZEB simulator” that is a brand new planning and assessment tool developed specifically for the ZEB project. And we’ll also exhibit a new planning of “ ZEB Ready” too.

About exhibition The touristic demand is expected to increase due to the Tokyo Olympic game to be held in Japan in 2020. To this respect, there are many factors to be identified and taken into account to correctly invest money and workforces in the tourism sectors. Therefore it is thought that we need advanced knowledge about possibility of the development and the grasp of the sightseeing demand based on data. As a solution to this problem, MeshStats, which is a system to search and display statistics of regional properties, has been developed based on a project “Evaluation Platform for Sustainability of Global Systems” funded by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). This system provides functionality to quantify and visualize regional characteristics in order to assist decision-making and some sorts of consultancy activities.

About exhibition The problem of the present power storage system to the multiple batteries from unstable natural energy, such as solar and wind power, is low storage efficiency and battery deterioration. We developed the new power storage system to realize the high storage efficiency and extension of life of battery 30% by combination of following solutions;
  • Maximize the power from PV by optimum current tracking by the charger,
  • High-efficient DC / DC converter with SiC,
  • Suppression of battery efficient reduction due to variability among packed batteries by the new power diversion type balancer,
  • Suppression of battery deterioration by the optimum load adjustment system,

About exhibition Current AI is achieved by the development in electron devices and software, but requires huge power. The society in which IoT and Big Data are developed needs Ultra-Low Power AI. We use a change of Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) characteristics caused by Hot-carrier and Joule- heating as variable strength of synaptic connection. TFT is suitable for 3D-integration and Printed-process , which have possibility of Ultra-Integration of electron devices and cost reduction.
